Here's Jodie's story:

I didn’t really have any expectations about postpartum life—I went into birth completely blind.

After discovering I had an infection, our son's heart rate had been elevated for too long, and I was still only 4cm dilated, I ended up having an emergency C-section. Then, at 8pm on 4/2, our beautiful boy was born. It’s a birthday I’ll never forget, and one I now get to share with him 

Recovery was something I was completely unprepared for. They essentially cut you in half and send you home two days later with very little information about what recovery actually looks like! 

Another thing is that I have never cried so much in my life, I knew there was a hormone drop but my goodness! I was crying over my wife bringing me a snack some days! And the rock hard boobs, the leakage, the lighting tit let down - why does it hurt so much? 

All I can say is thank goodness for my wife. For those first few days, she was up with me every two hours helping our son latch, while also cooking, cleaning, helping me shower and get dressed, and making sure I was eating enough. She truly held down the fort—and honestly, she still does four months later.

My mum was incredible too. Once my wife went back to work, she stayed with us for a whole week and did exactly the same—making sure both our son and I were okay, and reminding me not to overdo it while I healed.

Even after hearing other people’s birth and postpartum stories, I don’t think you can ever fully understand it until you’re living it yourself. We’ve been incredibly lucky with our little boy. He’s made this journey feel so special. It’s exhausting at times, of course, but we genuinely feel like the two luckiest people in the world.

Would I do it all again in a heartbeat?
